So I am really appreciating the fact that we get to live in the smaller town of Phichit as opposed to the much bigger, touristy cities like Chang Mai or Bangkok. For starters, everybody in the town thinks it's the greatest thing to see a group of white girls biking our way downtown. We are constantly being waved and and yelled at. Never anything bad, just friendly "hello's" and "Welcome to Thailand!" Those are probably my favorite. The road we drive down everyday to get to town has a couple of kids who live down the way and quite often as we pass by, they will be out on the street waiting for us to pass by. They will stick out their hands so we can high five them as we go by. One time they were so excited to see us, one little kid kicks off his sandals and goes sprinting after us to get a high five all the while screaming "hello! hello!" It was so darling! Seriously, Thai children are beautiful and so cute!
So that's the first reason why I am appreciative of the fact that we get to live in Phichit, the other reasons include that we have so many opportunities that would be denied to us if we were living somewhere that expected tourists. I love the fact that we get to see everyday life as it truly is here in Phichit. The festivals, the vendors, the people, I love it all. There is something so much more genuine and real about it all. We got to go to Chang Mai this past weekend which is why I was having these thoughts, but that's another posts completely :)
We took a day and just explored the shops and streets of Phichit trying to get a bit more familiar with it since we got lost on our way to the train station :) oops! (Ya that meant we missed church that week since the only church near here is in the next town over, 40 minutes away in Phitsanlok.)
Just a couple street shots.
I wondered why they have such messes of telephone wires here in Thailand and we don't and then I realized it's because we have them all underground. I dunno, I kinda like the chaotic mess that it creates. It really adds to the depth and detail of the town.
I just love that any hanging string, nook or cranny has been utilized here. It feels homey.
This still cracks me up. So in America we have tanning cream and all that stuff, well needless to say they don't have any tanning cream here, but they do have a lot of whitening cream! haha I'm like, "you can have my whiteness! I will trade you!"
This cute ol' lady at her little fruit stands. These are probably my favorite places to visit around town. the pineapple is simply to DIE for! So sweet! I don't know how I have ever lived without it!
I bought a shirt...sorry it's backwards, I had to take it in the mirror, but my roommates will appriciate this I know. Basically it says "I mustache you a question, but I'll shave it for later". That was pretty much our favorite quote in college. Missing my Classies! But it's super funny! Here in Thailand the things that are really big are mustaches on every article of clothing, Angry Birds, and Disney everything. Like the old women who work at the bank here use Disney pens, Disney bags, Disney paper, and it's like the little kids stuff, like Belle and Snow White are everywhere!!!
Bought a skirt :) only cost me 5 bucks too :) I love it. I kinda feel a bit like a Pinterest girl in this picture haha
Well, not much more that I can say other than I am having the time of my life and I hope that everyone at some point in their lives gets to visit a place they have always wanted to go to. There is nothing quite like experiencing something brand new and completely foreign. It changes you and makes you way more appreciative of things, but at the same time, if your like me, your just jealous of everything, and just wish you could be Thai. :)
"Super Smile!"
Oh, how I miss you! It sounds like you are having a BLAST. Love you Char poo!!
