Chang Mai Vacation

This is going to be a very long post.  So just bear with me.  But seriously, Chang Mai! What an incredible experience! We did so many things in such a short amount of time and for so cheap! We left at 11:30 PM from Phichit for an 8 hour train ride to Chang Mai on a friday just so we could have as much time as possible in Chang Mai for the weekend.  The train ride ended up being  a bit longer since the train station at Chang Mai was flooded and we had to ride the train to the next station over and take a bus back to Chang Mai.  It all worked out in the end but we were a little late for our tour.  The tour guide picked us up at the train station and we were off to start our Chang Mai Adventure.
Our first destination, the elephant camps! We watched a show that the elephants put on for about half an hour and they were so cute! And so smart! Like they listened to commands together and had perfect timing!

The elephant helping to put his hat back on.

Then we got to go on a jungle trek...on the backs of elephants! It was so incredible! They are really high up there! It was kinda scary, and hard to take pictures because they were so bumpy.

And this is why we only drink purified water in Thailand.  All of the water looks like this, it's pretty, but super brown.

Starting to get into the deep jungle.

Our Elephante.  So cute!

Next we stopped at a little village so we could get out and look around and buy souvenirs.  This little guy was too cute with his little flute he was playing and his traditional cap.

Last shot of the elephants.  Have I mentioned how insanely beautiful this place is?

Next, Lunch! I wish I had not just started scarfing down the food when they brought it and got a picture first, but as you can see, I'm not very good at thinking about waiting to get a picture when there is amazing food in front of me.  And the view was so incredible! we had this huge mountain rock face to the side of us and we got to eat on the roof of this cute restaurant, and the food was seriously so nice, I think in America, this kind of meal would have costs how much we paid for the whole tour haha.  Oh I tried buffalo!

After lunch, I was stuffed, but we had a temple to visit that had 500 steps to climb to reach it.  It was beyond beautiful.

The view was simply stunning.

I am running out of describing words to portray just how incredible this place was.

Next stop was the caves! That was awesome!

More temples outside of the caves.

The long neck lady village! I thought I would get it done as well :) Everything was kinda expensive here though because they were totally expecting tourists.

Our tour was finally finished...but we weren't! It was pouring down rain but we decided to go shopping at the walking market that Chang Mai is famous for, and spent more than a few hours (and a few dollars) there. so much fun, I could have stayed there forever.

On our way to the market, beautiful downtown Chang Mai.

Zee markets! So much fun! Had the best banana waffles here!

Sunday morning, we got up early and walked over to the church in Chang Mai, it was super close and sooooo nice to finally go to church over here.  Everything was in thai, but there was a group of American sister missionaries who had headsets for anyone who spoke english and they were translating it for us.  So cool! It's so wonderful to be able to be halfway across the world and know that at least one thing will never change and that the church is exactly the same no matter where you go.

After church...well we had to eat, so....Mango crepes with Mango ice cream on top? I THINK YES!!!! BEST THING EVER!

After lunch, we went on a temple walk around Chang Mai, we just trekked around town and saw close to ten different temples.  All of which were fabulous and amazing.

Inside the temple of Wat Phan On. This temple was constructed about 1501 A.D. during King Phra Muang Kaeo's reigning period.  Ya, I really don't know how any of that information is all that relevant to any of you guys, but I read it on the sign outside and thought I would include it so it looks like I'm learning something and not just vacationing, looking at pretty things :)

After a long day of walking, we somehow managed to find the walking market again (it changes locations each day), and treated ourselves to a heavenly foot massage.  So nice.  They seriously have massage chairs for massages everywhere in Thailand.  Oh, and for a half hour of foot massaging bliss, it was only 2 bucks.

After that, it was time to head back to good ol' Phichit.  The train ride was a bit bumpy and I got a little sick, but we got to ride in the sleeper train compartments so we got to lie down which was awesome! Well, I better go and get ready to teach some little children english.

"Super Smile!"
