A Bangkok Excursion

Our friends that we met here in Phichit got married a couple of weekends ago and they invited us girls to the wedding! It was so much fun.  They were having the wedding in Bangkok so we headed down to the capitol of Thailand for the weekend.  And what a beautiful, stressful, exciting, confusing, scary weekend it was. We had a lot of time before the ceremony on saturday so we decided to visit the Bangkok Zoo.  I was only a little concerned by some of the cages (or rather lack of!) for some of the animals, mainly the bears! There was nothing but a ditch and some shrubbery between us! Anyways, I didn't get too many shots of the animals but these big guys were running around everywhere!
My second run in with a commodo dragon.  Tang said that if were lucky we would see some around Phichit, and me and another girl did see one when we were biking one day, but he was just a little guy and promptly ran back into the sewer when we drove by.  This guy was huge though! They were all over the park in the zoo.

while at the zoo, we saw a sign for an african acrobatic show and thought it would be fun to see! We saw a couple of the performers outside waiting for their show to begin and they were so friendly! (maybe a little too friendly with one of the girls, haha he wanted to get her number and take her out and kept asking her when she was coming back to the zoo).  But they were really nice and so funny! They were a group of guys from Kenya who were touring here in Thailand.

Pretty impressive right?

yeah, I know how to do that too.  I just don't wanna make people feel bad so I don't show off my acrobatic skills in public.

After the african acrobatic show they had an elephant show which was so fun! The elephants were dancing to Michael Jackson! So cute and so funny! We were in the front seats so we had the best view :)

Asian signs are the silliest.  I was taking this picture of the mens bathroom right as a guy walked out of the bathroom.  I cropped him out cause he looked a little confused that I was taking pictures of the mens room.

finally dinner time! We were craving some food from home (mostly cheese) so we went out for some Mexican food!

Oh sweet heaven of nachos on a plate. Looking at this picture right now is making me drool!

After dinner, time for some shopping! So many little shops and stand everywhere! It was so much more overwhelming than anything I have ever experienced! But I bought some Nike Free run 2 shoes for about 40 bucks so I didn't have too bad of a time :)

Sunday after the wedding we decided to visit the grand palace which is a huge tourist spot in Bankok.  This is a shot of the street which miraculously wasn't covered in taxis and scooters at the time.  Very bad place to be a driver Bangkok is.  Or a pedestrian for that matter! You could seriously get run over at any moment! It doesn't help that the sidewalks are all usually only wide enough for one person, and then on top of that, all the street vendors somehow manage to set up shops on them, so you are either in the street, or have to walk through their shop which is their whole plan I bet, just to get you to walk through so they can tell you to buy their stuff.  Anyways, I'm done with that little rant, lets just say, Bangkok is not as nice of a place as Phichit is.  The people are much more forceful, rude and just plain outright liars to get you to spend more money with them.

Outside the grand palace.  we didn't have enough time before we had to catch our bus back to Phichit to see the whole thing.

Such pretty colors!

Feeding the birds corn! This old dude gave me some seeds (which i asked several times if they were free and he assured me they were before leaving) and had a good ol time feeding the birds while humming the Mary Poppins song.  Too bad that moment was ruined when the old man came back like 15 mintues later demanding that I paid for the 20 kernels of corn that he gave me.  And I was like, "No way am I paying you 5 bucks for that!" He said it was free.  He lives in Bangkok, lots of tourists, and a lot of people in Thailand know quite a bit of english.  He knew what I was asking.  So I only paid a little bit and said it was all I had.  I shouldn't have given him anything.  Little stinker.  never taking anything from anyone in Bangkok ever again, even if it's a flyer.  If we ever go back, which I doubt we will.

Sorry no pictures from the wedding, but hopefully I can steal the ones that Daniel and Pat put up on Facebook and do a post then.  Till then...
